St. Louis readies for winter weather

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis – A storm that's leaving a blanket of snow around much of Missouri is shutting down schools in both states and making driving hazardous.

The snow will taper off late today, with up to eight inches expected in northeast Missouri.

Rain changed to freezing rain at about 6 a.m. in the St. Louis area, just in time for the morning rush hour.

Soon snow will be falling in the area, just like it has been in most of Missouri since last night as the storm moved from west to east.

Forecasters warn that winds will cause blowing and drifting snow and wind chills at times below zero.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the St. Louis area until 6 p.m. Tuesday.

MODOT crews began salting St. Louis area roads after the rain began turning to sleet and snow this morning.
