Cloning opponents will ramp up efforts in March

By Marshall Griffin, KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – Amendment Two opponents will return to Jefferson City later in the legislative session to persuade lawmakers to ban what they call human cloning.

Amendment Two, passed by Missouri voters in November, allows embryonic stem cell research, but opponents claim it also opens the door to human cloning.

Jaci Winship, who heads the group "Missourians Against Human Cloning," says they'll return to the State Capitol on March 7th to lobby representatives, senators, and the governor.

"We felt we needed a little more time to get more people involved, and we needed to see how things are going here in the legislature," said Winship. "So we think March 7th is an excellent time to see where we stand."

Missourians Against Human Cloning and several other groups gathered last week at the State Capitol to do some preliminary lobbying and to prepare for their big push in March.
