Sierra Club says Water Commission is too Republican-heavy

By AP/KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – The Sierra Club says the state's Clean Water Commission has one too many Republicans, and the group has filed a complaint with Governor Blunt.

Blunt, a Republican, appoints the commission's seven members.

Sierra Club Member Ken Midkiff says Blunt address the GOP heavy imbalance. He says if the governor doesn't do something, the Sierra Club will ask Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon to nullify all of the board's actions.

The commission is scheduled to meet this week, Tuesday and Wednesday. The commission is supposed to have no more than three members from one party, but there are four Republicans.

Midkiff says the seventh member should come from another political party.
