St. Louis, MO – Members of the priest sex abuse victims' group SNAP passed out fliers in front of a protestant church in south St. Louis City Sunday. They were protesting the Reverend Carl King, who they accuse of sexual misconduct.
SNAP claims that King, of Watson Terrace Christian Church, is a predator. The group cites past examples of sexual misconduct including a 2005 restraining order following alleged sexual relations with a mentally handicapped member of his congregation.
"In this case he has two restraining orders against him because of the victim over here in St. Louis and we think that he is a dangerous man," said David Clohessy, SNAP's national director.
"At a bare minimum the members of this church need to know about his past and need to protect themselves and their families and their loved ones."
Criminal charges have not been filed against Mr. King and administrators of Watson Terrace do not see sufficient cause to remove him as their minister.
"The polity of our denomination is such that congregations can choose to employ whomever they wish for their ministers," added Penny Ross-Corona, the affiliate minister for the Disciples of Christ Church.
