Columbia, MO. – University of Missouri curators say the school will most likely have to offer its next president considerably more money than Elson Floyd's current salary.
Floyd is making $382,000, with a $50,000 yearly deferred compensation, which he forfeits by leaving short of five years.
Washington State University offered Floyd 600-thousand-dollars, along with larger retention bonuses.
Curator and Board President-elect Don Walsworth says the board will have to be flexible when setting a salary for a new university president
"I don't think that we can attract the person that we want to attract at the salary that we're paying Elson Floyd," Walsworth said. "It's just unreasonable to assume that."
Walsworth says the Board of Curators will discuss plans for the presidential search beginning Friday in Columbia.
