St. Louis, MO – KSDK-Channel 5 announced Thursday it will broadcast 20 Cardinals games next year, and they'll broadcast them in high-definition.
The announcement was part of the team's re-upping its contracts with cable channel FSN, as well. With Channel 5 getting the games, that leaves KPLR (Channel 11) out.
It also marks a return of Cardinal games to KSDK, which carried games from 1947 through 1987. The station used to be called KSD.
"This new contract between KSDK and the Cardinals is more than just business," noted Lynn Beall, KSDK's president and general manager, in a story posted on the station's website. "We have the people at our station St. Louisans know, and the news and information they trust. Combine that with our cutting-edge High Definition delivery, and storied tradition with the Cardinals, everyone, especially baseball fans, win."
But the new deal also means fewer Cardinals games on free television and more on cable. FSN will carry 130 games next year, with ESPN and FOX picking up the remaining 12 games to air nationally.
KPLR had broadcast games since 1988.
