Some parents complain about new support check system

By AP/KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – Some Missouri parents are complaining about the state's getting rid of child support checks.

The state stopped sending monthly paper checks last month. Instead, they've distributed almost 60,000 debit cards that parents can use anywhere MasterCard is accepted.

The state says that will be more convenient and will save money. But some parents say they've had trouble finding ATM's that accept the cards, and they sometimes have to pay additional fees.

State officials say they're unaware of any problems. But they say recipients who do have issues also can have money directly deposited into a checking or savings account.
