Washington – A federal prosecutor says no one charges will be filed after an investigation into how fee office contracts are awarded in Missouri.
U.S. Attorney Bud Cummins of Little Rock, Ark., said Missouri Governor Matt Blunt was never a target of the investigation.
The Justice Department usually does not comment about ongoing investigations, but Cummins said he was disclosing it publicly for the first time because of media reports.
The Associated Press reported earlier this year that FBI agents were interviewing former state contractors about how the offices have been managed under Blunt's administration.
The state's 183 fee offices have long been political patronage plums that governors award to supporters.
