St. Louis, MO – The Rams won their season opener Sunday, despite being unable to score a touchdown. Jeff Wilkins instead set a team record by kicking six field goals to lead the Rams to an 18-10 win over Denver. The game was also the coaching debut of coach Scott Linehan.
Wilkins' afternoon included field goals of 51 and 48 yards. Along wiht setting a team record, Wilkins tied his career best of six field goals set with San Francisco ten years ago.
The Rams' defense forced five turnovers, including three interceptions of Jake Plummer. Will Witherspoon tipped a Plummer pass into the arms of Fakhir Brown, who returned it 20 yards to the Rams' 40 with 2:26 left in the game. Rookie Tye Hill and Corey Chavous also picked off Plummer, who was just 13-of-26 for 138 yards.
Marc Bulger passed for 217 yards and Stephen Jackson ran for 121 yards on 22 carries for St. Louis.
