Troopers crack down on work zone speeding

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis, MO. – A morning-long crackdown on speeding through work zones in suburban St. Louis netted 78 tickets and fines this morning amounting to more than $23,000.

Two teams of troopers targeted work zones on Interstate 44 in Eureka and Pacific throughout the morning rush.

The crackdown comes after the recent deaths of two highway workers in the St. Louis area.

A new state law meant to protect highway workers goes into affect Monday. Drivers who strike highway workers could face a $10,000 fine and lose their license for up to a year.
