Woman hit by MetroLink train given 50/50 chance of survival

St. Louis, MO – Officials now say the woman struck by a light rail train at a station on the University of Missouri at St. Louis campus is alive.

Authorities earlier said the woman was dead. She was critically hurt just before 5 a.m. Wednesday when she was struck by a MetroLink train on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus.

St. Louis County police spokeswoman Tracy Panus says doctors have given the woman a 50/50 chance of survival.

She had not originally been expected to live.

Police say the woman likely attempted suicide.

She is 39 years old and from the Washington, D.C. area.
