Three Riverview Gardens board members question peer's residency

By Kevin Lavery, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – Three Riverview Gardens school board members are calling on St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Bob McCollough to remove board member Michael Person. It's the latest turn in an ongoing county investigation into the district.

The three board members sent McCollough a letter stating that Person does not live within the district, and is thus an illegal member.

The district is under investigation for allegations of financial impropriety.

Board member Rev. Tommie Pierson says it was Michael Person's vote that reversed superintendent Henry Williams' suspension...and led to the board's quick reorganization.

"Michael has made crucial votes that have devastated in some ways this school district...and yet, we discover he doesn't live in the district," Pierson said. "We believe that's illegal, and that those votes should be rescinded."

Missouri law requires school board members to live within the districts they serve.

Michael Person insists he does meet that criteria.
