St. Louis, MO – The nearly 120-year old Deaconess College of Nursing in St. Louis is getting a new name. It will now be called the Chamberlain College of Nursing

The nursing school, located right next to Forest Park Hospital in Dogtown, was bought by Devry, Inc. from Tenet Health Systems in March, 2005. As part of that purchase agreement, the Deaconess name was to expire at the end of September, 2006.

"We are thrilled to begin a new era of nursing education under the Chamberlain name," said Susan Groenwald, the school's president, in a statement. "Chamberlain will continue Deaconess' strong tradition of academic quality, integrity and professionalism by offering students a curriculum that incorporates broad general education and extensive clinical practice."

The school is also planning to expand its online degree program for a B.S. in Nursing and also will explore expanding physically. Chamberlain is considering offering classes in other markets and has applied to offer programs in Ohio.
