Jefferson City, MO – The wife of a Missouri lawmaker was among those stranded when an Amtrak train derailed Wedmesday in mid-Missouri.

But she got a ride to Jefferson City aboard a Highway Patrol helicopter, while the other passengers took a bus.

Debbie Bearden is the wife of St. Charles Republican Carl Bearden, who is in his party's leadership in the House.

The chopper had flown to the site of the derailment. No one was hurt in the mishap.

The patrol says there was no special treatment for Mrs. Bearden, saying a commander at the scene recognized her and offered her the ride because the chopper was headed back to Jefferson City anyway.

Carl Bearden also says it wasn't a big deal and that there was no special treatment.
