St. Louis, MO – The Board of Trustees at Saint Louis University has voted to let construction start on a new $80 million arena at the intersection of I-64/40 and Compton. The university says ground will be broken bySeptember.

The arena will be used for a number of events, most notably SLU basketball. The Billikens currently play downtown at the Savvis Center.

The new facility will feature practice facility, offices for SLUs Athletic Department, locker rooms, and 10,000 seats.

To raise the needed funds, SLU has embarked on an effort to raise $39 million in private donations. The university says it hopes to reach that goal in the next year. TIF money will also be used.
