St. Louis – Rescue crews are searching the frigid Mississippi River this evening for a worker who fell from a bridge south of St. Louis.
The missing man is James Belfield.
He and three co-workers were on a scaffolding that gave way about 11:30 this morning under the Jefferson Barracks Bridge.
The other three were saved by their safety harnesses, but it's unclear if Belfield was also wearing a harness.
Fire officials say Belfield fell while trying to help the other three.
Rescue boats were searching about four miles down river with the air temperature in the 20s.
The men work for Thomas Industrial Coatings.
