Springfield, Ill. – A spokeswoman says Illinois Senate President Emil Jones is recovering after undergoing angioplasty Tuesday.
Spokeswoman Cindy Davidsmeyer says Jones was awake but mildly sedated during the procedure to correct a minor blockage in his right coronary artery. Doctors inserted a stent and unclogged the artery.
Davidsmeyer says doctors expect the Chicago Democrat to be in the hospital for a few more days. And she says he's expected to make a full recovery.
Jones sought treatment after feeling some tightness in his chest while working out at his Chicago home Sunday.
The 70-year-old has been in the Illinois General Assembly since 1973, when he was elected to the House. He's been in the state Senate since 1983.
