St. Louis, MO – The second and final part of a smoking ban in Ballwin, Mo. goes into effect today (Monday).
The city passed the ban about a year ago, and made many businesses and restaurants go smoke free last spring.
But, as part of a compromise, bars and restaurants that served liquor had extra time - until Jan. 2, 2006 - to lose the smoking.
The Ballwin ban comes as a new law also takes effect that allows all Illinois towns and villages pass city-wide smoking bans. Before, only certain cities had the power to ban smoking.
