St. Louis, MO. – The last of three siblings injured when their home was swept away during a reservoir break in southeast Missouri has been released from Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis.
Hospital spokesman Bob Davidson says 5-year-old Tanner Toops will need follow-up care at home but is doing well, laughing and playing before he left the hospital Thursday.
Tanner, his parents and siblings were caught up in about one (b) billion gallons of water when the reservoir at an Ameren U-E hydroelectric plant broke two weeks ago.
The family lived at Johnson's Shut-Ins state park, where Jerry Toops was park superintendent.
All three children suffered hypothermia. Tanner was near cardiac arrest and suffered burns during efforts to warm him following his rescue.
