Springfield, Ill. – The New Year will mean more people in Illinois can enroll in the state's health insurance program for low-income families.
Changes to the Family Care program take effect on Sunday. The expanded program for working parents raises the income level for eligibility to 185% of the federal poverty level (about $36,000 for a family of four). Officials say 56,000 more low-income families will become eligible for state-run health care, as a result.
Children of working families also are eligible for health care coverage through the Kid-Care program. The eligibility limit for Kid-Care is 200% of the poverty level.
Families can enroll for either program online by clicking here, or by calling toll-free at 1-866-4-OUR-KIDS.
