St. Louis, MO – A St. Louis man pleaded guilty on Monday to charges related to a drunken driving accident that cost a city police officer his legs.
John Mittelbuscher faces as many as 14 years in prison when he's sentenced next year.
Officer Matthew Browning was helping in an arrest and standing between two unmarked police vehicles a year ago when a pickup struck the rear vehicle. The impact severed Browning's legs under the knees.
Prosecutors say Mittelbuscher's blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit, and that test was taken more than four hours after the crash.
Specifically, Mittelbuscher pleaded guilty to two felony charges of second-degree assault - driving while intoxicated.
