Sunset Hills sued over derelict properties

By Maria Hickey, KWMU

St. Louis, MO. – The city of Sunset Hills is being sued by five residents for failing to uphold its own ordinances.

Several properties have been left empty in Sunset Manor in anticipation of a proposed shopping center. But the developer, Novus Companies, failed to close on the home sales last month.

Plaintiff's attorney Paul Ferber says the city is not keeping up the properties and the lawsuit seeks to change that.

To enforce their ordinance overall that prohibit derelict automobiles, stacking of old tires, houses from being stripped and being boarded up, but none of this is happening, Ferber said.

Ferber says residents' complaints have gone unheeded by the city.

Sunset Hills City attorney Robert C. Jones said he was unable to comment because he had not seen the lawsuit.
