Jefferson City, MO – The state of Missouri's homeland security director resigned Thursday after only seven months in the post.

Michael Chapman says he wants to be with his family more in St. Louis.

The state's Public Safety Director, Mark James, says he will take over Chapman's duties.

Chapman is a former employee of the U.S. Defense Department. He was hired in February to direct Missouri's homeland security efforts. A department spokeswoman says there are no immediate plans to appoint a replacement.
