Jefferson City, MO – Missouri's state Board of Education is expected to name a three-person panel today (Wednesday) to run the Wellston School District in St. Louis County.
That panel will get to work Friday.
The board last week refused to reinstate accreditation, which marks the first time a school district in Missouri has been essentially dissolved.
Despite the move, state officials say the ultimate goal is to one day return Wellston schools to local control.
The meeting will be in Jefferson City today at 1:00 p.m.
Wellston has been unaccredited since June of 2003. As a result, the district will lapse at midnight Friday and state education officials will be authorized to take over the district's operations.
