Belleville, Ill. – The Illinois American Water company has issued a boil water advisory for several cities in the Metro-East.
People in Belleville, Swansea, Shiloh, Millstadt, Scott Air Force Base, Columbia and Waterloo should boil the water used for cooking and drinking.
The advisory issued this weekend does not apply to water used for showering, washing dishes or clothes. It will remain in effect until further notice.
Authorities say the boil advisory is a precaution because water pressure is low in the system and there is a remote possibility for contamination.
