New research on New Madrid fault line

Washington, DC – In the United States, California gets the most attention as an earthquake hotspot.

But new research suggests that a big earthquake is likely to strike the Midwest again, along the New Madrid fault line.

That's where three of this country's biggest quakes hit in the 1800s.
