Jefferson City, MO – Missourians will have to prove they're legally in the country when they get or renew a driver's licenses, starting July First.
The new requirements were mandated in a state law passed last year.
U.S. citizens will have to show a birth certificate; passport; or certificate of citizenship or naturalization.
Non-citizens must provide documents to prove they belong in the country. The state still hasn't determined exactly what documents that means, but it could include itemslike a valid foreign passport or visa paperwork.
And if a person's name changed from the birth certificate, other paperwork like a marriage license is also needed.
