St. Peters sells land for business park

By KWMU

St. Peters, MO – St. Peters aldermen voted 6-1 Thursday night to sell land for the Lakeside 370 Business Park to Kaplan Development.

Kaplan will pay more than $48 million to now be in charge of developing the park.

Supporters say it will add to St. Peters' tax base. It will, though, be built in a flood plain, which is why there are also plans to build a levee nearby.

That has some groups opposed, saying another levee will just worsen flooding elsewhere in St. Charles County and Illinois. One of those groups - the Great Rivers Habitat Alliance - had also offered to buy the land.

City officials say they believe the land will receive the needed permits from the Army Corps of Engineers and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
