St. Louis, MO. – Another pharmacist in Illinois is suing Governor Rod Blagojevich over a
rule regarding emergency contraception.

The rule requires pharmacies that sell contraceptives to fill all prescriptions for birth control immediately.

That includes the morning-after pill.

St. Louis lawyer Ed Martin filed the suit today on behalf of a rural pharmacist who does not fill the prescriptions on moral grounds.

Martin says pharmacies are protected by a law in Illinois that lets them
opt out of doing anything against their conscience.

"What the governor did was effectively say 'I don't care if you have a
right of conscience," Martin said. "I don't care if there's a law. I'm just going to say there's an emergency and I'm going to change the rules of the game in mid-stream."

Blagojevich has said pharmacists should not discriminate against people who
come to them with a prescription.
