St. Louis, MO – President Bush helped Republican U-S Senator Jim Talent raise more than $1 million a fundraiser Thursday night in St. Louis.
Talent's campaign finance director says that's the most ever raised at any event for a congressional campaign in Missouri.
Bush also used the speech at the Millenium Hotel to call on the Senate to give an up-or down vote to his nominee for U.N. Ambassador, John Bolton.
Senate Democrats and at least one Republican have resisted the nomination of John Bolton to be U.N. Ambassador.
Bolton has been criticized for some of his views on the United Nations and for his treatment of subordinates.
But the president told the St. Louis crowd the United Nations needs reform, and his pick is the man who will do it: "It's time for the United States Senate to play pure politics - stall politics - and give John Bolton an up-or-down vote on the Senate floor."
Democrats held up a vote on his nomination last week because of a dispute over documents they say the White House refused to provide.
