Task force investigates sniper attack

By Maria Hickey, KWMU

St. Louis, MO. – Law enforcement officials, including the FBI, are looking for a sniper or snipers who shot at motorists and police early yesterday morning on Highway 30 in Jefferson County.

The shots were fired in Byrnes Mill from one a.m. until about 2:15 and caused the highway to be shut down for several hours.

Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer says although 15 to 20 rounds were fired no people or vehicles were hit.

"It was almost like they were attempting not to harm anybody or damage anything, but at the same time, it might just be coincidence," Boyer said. "Maybe they were a poor shot. We don't know, but that's all going to come out as we continue our investigation."

A task force of local, state and federal officials was put together this morning.

Boyer says they're combing the scene for physical evidence and talking with people in nearby neighborhoods.
