Jefferson City, MO. – A state budget that cuts health care for poor adults and spends more for school children in Missouri is on its way to the governor.
Lawmakers gave final approval today to the $19 billion budget for the fiscal year that starts July 1.
The budget generally follows the model laid out by Governor Matt Blunt in January.
The budget eliminates Medicaid coverage for more than 90,000 low-income parents, seniors and disabled. It also reduces benefits for adults who remain on the program.
And monthly subsidies are cut for the adoptive parents and guardians of more than two-thousand foster children.
But basic state aid to school districts will increase by $113 million over this year's figure of $2.2 billion.
