Simon Appointment to IL Gaming Board has a Hitch

By AP/KWMU

Chicago, Ill. – There's a glitch in the effort to make the daughter of the late U.S. Senator Paul Simon a state gambling regulator.

Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich recently named Sheila Simon to the state's Gaming Board, but she's also on the Carbondale City Council.

State law bans Gaming Board members from serving on any other paid public body.

The governor's office says it's working to change the law.

Campaign reform supporters, though, say that while they like Simon, the change could create future conflicts of interest.
