Springfield, Ill. – A British company is going to court to try to get the state of Illinois to pay for flu vaccines.
Governor Rod Blagojevich hired Ecosse Hospital Products to find extra flu vaccine when there was a perceived shortage last year.
The dispute arose after the state never got federal approval to bring the shots into the U.S. Blagojevich hadn't gotten such approval before signing the contract.
Illinois' Comptroller Dan Hynes then refused to release the money for the vaccine because he says the contract says the state won't owe if there are regulatory problems.
But Ecosse disagrees, saying the state breached its contract. It has filed a complaint with the Illinois Court of Claims.
