On April 14th, 1970, 200,000 miles from home, Commander Jim Lovell and his two Apollo 13 crewmates found themselves in big trouble.
An oxygen tank on their Moon-bound spacecraft exploded. With just a few days worth of power and air, the crew had to swing their crippled ship around the Moon and get it home. Their story was told in the 1995 movie Apollo 13.
Jim Lovell will be in town Thursday evening as part of the St. Louis Speakers Series. He told KWMU's Matt Sepic at first, the crew figured it had a only a 10% chance of making it back to Earth.
