A retired map-maker from south St. Louis has written a new book about the city's history.
"Beyond the Frontier" takes readers through the days when American Indians - and later Europeans - lived in St. Louis. The book includes the founding of the city by Pierre Laclede and ends in 1821, the year Missouri became a state.
KWMU's Tom Weber spoke with the author, Fred Hodes, who says he hopes he's clarified some aspects of St. Louis history.
