St. Louis, MO – Friday is the last day on the job for an Illinois state Representative from Alton.
Steve Davis is resigning, citing his health which includes coronary artery disease.
Davis just won re-election last month, which means he hadn't actually started serving that newly-won term (lawmakers are sworn in for a new session in January).
That move had Davis's opponent this year why the resignation didn't come earlier. Waiting until after the election means Davis's replacement will automatically be a fellow Democrat.
Davis was first elected to the state House in 1994.
