Edwardsville, Ill. – There were fewer alcohol arrests Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville in 2003, but burglary was a big problem.

The annual crime report for the university shows there were 35 reported burglaries in 2003, up from four in 2002.

SIUE Police Chief Gina Hays says she doesn't think the jump is part of a trend. She says two people - who have been caught and prosecuted - were responsible for 28 of those thefts.

Alcohol arrests dropped to 49 in 2003, after a spike of 94 in 2002. Hays says the university's getting better at educating students about drinking responsibly.
