Bond, Talent Question City Police Overtime

By Tom Weber, KWMU

St. LOuis, MO – Missouri's two U.S. Senators want know whether St. Louis City Police are getting overtime pay due to them.

Kit Bond and Jim Talent have asked the Labor Department to look into whether the department isn't giving overtime that some officers should now be eligible for.

The new rules went into effect last month.

"In this era of tight budgets and increased security threats, we are well aware of the constraints facing city and police officials," Bond and Talent said in a letter to Labor Secretary Elaine Chao. "Nonetheless, we are concerned the Police Department's decision contradicts the new overtime regulations and believe it is critical the Department of Labor act to protect the overtime rights of St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department sergeants."
