Chicago, Ill. – Former Illinois Governor Jim Thompson says he's not sure who he'll vote for in the U.S. Senate race.
Thompson is a moderate Republican and the longest serving governor in Illinois history.
He says some of Republican candidate Alan Keyes' positions on the issues make him uncomfortable, but adds he'll keep an open mind. "When it comes to the protection of rights for American citizens, I'd like to hear specificially what his positions are," Thompson told reporters Wednesday.
"And if they're not in line with mine, I'll take that into account in the voting booth."
Thompson, who most recently served on the 9/11 Commission, says he's disappointed Republican leaders didn't choose an in-state candidate, like retired General John Borling. But he says he won't hold that against Keyes.
Keyes faces Democrat Barack Obama.
