Raja, Sri the Elephants Will Be Parents

St. Louis, MO – The St. Louis Zoo's Raja the elephant is going to be a daddy. Tests show his mate, Sri (prounounced "see") is four months pregnant.

That means the blessed event should happen in October or November of 2005. (Elephants carry their calves for 20 to 22 months)

Raja's own birth was greeted with great fanfare 11 years ago. Thousands flocked to his first public appearance and the zoo got 44,000 suggestions for what his name should be.
