Columbia, MO – University of Missouri President Elson Floyd says he's not sure lawmakers will approve a merger with Northwest Missouri State University.
He says lawmakers have told him that the proposed merger was "too much, too soon, too fast", and issues surrounding the name change of Southwest Missouri State also play a role in what could be a failed attempt to bring Northwest into the fold.
Floyd says he will talk with Northwest Missouri State University president Dean Hubbard about what to do for the next legislative session.
"We have been very forthcoming regarding the elements associated with this possible merger," Floyd said. "We then need to evaluate what the troublesome parts were with the general assembly and see if we can correct it."
Floyd says if they can't correct it, then both university presidents need to make that decision as well.
