St. Louis, MO – Webster University signed a lease on Monday to move into the Old Post Office in downtown St. Louis.
Webster is the first tenant that has signed on with the developers who want to renovate the 120-year old empty building. The school wants to offer courses, programs, and events that will keep students downtown day and night.
The school signed a 12.5 year lease to take up space, mostly on a lower floor of the six-level building.
The developers are also reportedly closer to signing a lease with the state Court of Appeals for about 50,000 square feet.
That still would leave about 75,000 square feet of empty space.
Webster already has a downtown campus, at 10th & Washington, but began in 2000 the process of finding another place to expand. Officials hope to move into the Old Post Office location in the fall of 2005.
