St. Louis, MO – Legislation in Jefferson City would prohibit people from using an expired driver's license to vote. Secretary of State Matt Blunt says he supports legislation; so, too, does House Speaker Catherine Hanaway.

Last month, she presentend an expired driver's license to vote in St. Louis County. A Democratic election official turned her away.

But Blunt said the official should have let Hanaway vote, saying there was nothing in current law to prevent someone from using an expired ID. The legislation clarifies that issue.

Hanaway was able to vote after getting her passport.

St. Louis Democrat Sue Schoemehl is sponsoring the legislation.
