St. Louis, MO – The Post-Dispatch reports it may soon lose a tax break.

Newspapers in Missouri don't have to pay sales tax on machinery, equipment, and supplies they buy that they use to produce the papers.

But the Missouri House Wednesday voted to repeal that exemption for just the Post-Dispatch and Kansas City Star. The legislation doesn't specifically name the papers but repeals the exemption for papers with a certain circulation that only the Post-Dispatch and Star have.

Democrats called the move retaliation for an editorial in Sunday's Post-Dispatch that criticized House Republicans for cutting Medicaid. The editorial was entitled "House of Hypocrites."

But supporters say they're looking for a way to raise more money for the state.
