Greensburg, PA. – The man who organized the Pope's trip to St. Louis in 1999 is among four priests being considered to lead the Greenburg, Pa. diocese.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says the candidates include St. Louis Monsignor Richard Stika. The diocese is about 25 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.
The paper says all four men have strong ties to either Cardinals Justin Rigali, or Anthony Bevilacqua, the man Rigali replaced as Philadelphia archbishop after leaving St. Louis. Stika was Rigali's secretary when Rigali led the St. Louis archdiocese. Stika currently holds the post of vicar general of the St. Louis archdiocese.
Other names considered in the running are Philadelphia auxiliary Bishop Michael Burbidge, Philadelphia vicar general Monsignor Joseph Cistone, and auxiliary Bishop Roger Gries of Cleveland.
Greensburg Bishop Anthony Bosco has resigned but will serve until he's replaced.
