Edwardsville, ILl. – An Edwardsville alderman was released from jail on Monday after posting bond. Alderman Herb Clay is charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor resisting a police officer. He
is also charged with fleeing and eluding an officer.
The 53-year-old pleaded innocent to the charges during an arraignment on Monday. He was then released after posting $500 bond.
Police in East St. Louis say they spotted Clay running a stop sign on Saturday and a car chase ensued. When they finally captured Clay, police say he was found carrying cocaine.
Clay has also been suspended with pay from his other job as a Madison County probation officer.
