Springfield, MO – A judge in Springfield says Missouri's law requiring health care workers to report suspected child abuse is unconstitutional.
Based on his decision Wednesday, Greene County Circuit Judge Calvin Holden dismissed two misdemeanor charges filed under the law against emergency room nurse Leslie Brown.
She treated a two-year-old Springfield boy after he arrived at a hospital with seizures and violent vomiting.
Young Dominic James later died of a head injury authorities believe was caused by violent shaking.
Brown is believed to have been among the first prosecuted under the law, dubbed the "mandated reporting law."
