East Alton, Ill. – Wednesday will be the second day of cancelled class at St. Kevin's Catholic School in East Alton.
Someone caused $20,000 in vandalism to the school and adjoining church by breaking windows and religious statues, writing graffiti in classrooms, and even urinating on the church's altar. A life-sized statue of the Virgin Mary was tossed down a stairway and broken.
The school's students come from East Alton, Wood River and Bethalto. Officials hope to open Thursday. Police are searching for a suspect.
