St. Louis, MO – Longtime St. Louis TV reporter Herb Humphries has died.
Humphries worked for 20 years for KMOV (Channel 4). Reporting nightside, he often showed off his Texas roots with his cowboy hats, boots, and buckskin coats. Humphries died at his home in Gladewater, Texas Saturday night at the age of 71.
His reports always ended with his signature line, "This is Herb Humphries, reporting nightside."
A lifelong newsman, Humphries started out at a small newspaper in Midland, Texas, before moving to radio. During the 1960s,
he worked for WINS, the first all-news radio station in New York City.
He jumped to television when he moved to St. Louis in 1974.
